City of Derry RFC 47pts, Clogher Valley 10pts

City of Derry Rugby Club produced a clinical performance at Judges Road on Saturday last when they ran in seven try's in their Qualifying League bonus point victory against Clogher Valley. The last week has been a fruitful one for the Derry men with victory last Saturday in the AIB Junior Cup against Armagh and then on Wednesday night they saw off Bangor away with a last gasp try for a bonus point victory.

The conditions af Judges Road were ideal for this early kick off and a try on five minutes by that man Mark O'Connor eased any early nerves. David Funston made the initial break to allow Richard McCarter to put O'Connor in the clear for his score which he converted himself.

Peter Henderson showed his class to score two try's the first on twenty minutes when he pounced on loose ball in midfield and ran 50 metres to score under the posts. His next try came after great inter play between himself and winger Simon Logue with O'Connor adding two conversions Derry were looking comfortable. Derry finished the half on the attack and following a five meter scrum and a quick ruck Simon Logue was on hand to sneak in for his first try at senior level and Derry's bonus point secured. Mark O'Connor kicked the conversion to give his team a twenty eight point lead.

Clogher Valley started the second half the better and were rewarded with two unconverted try's in the first fifteen minutes. Alister Ferguson finished off a superb flowing movement from Clogher backs and forward to score the first try and scrum half Aaron Best got in from a tap and go penalty to score in the corner.

Derry awoke from their slumbers and quickly got back on the scoreboard when Richard McCarter made a superb break to release Andrew Semple to score an unconverted try. McCarter got in for a try on twenty five when he produced a sublime chip over the Clogher defence to collect and touch down by the posts. Ryan Campbell who was unavailable last week completed the scoring with a try on thirty five minutes, O'Connor converted the last two try's to give Derry an easy victory.
