COD LADIES V WATERPARK
City of Derry Ladies 0 Waterpark Ladies 12
Waterpark made the long journey from the south east to take on City of Derry Ladies in the All Ireland Cup. Despite the wintery weather Judges Road basked in sunshine for most of the match. From the kick off this was an evenly contested affair with Waterpark taking the ball on at every opportunity and Derry matching them in defence. Waterpark's experience eventually told as they moved the ball wide after several phases to go over
in the corner for a unconvetrted score. The Derry centre pairing of
Kelly Holmes and Helena Lindsay putting in some great defensive tackles keping Waterpark on the back foot. Suzy Tinney, with her first start at out half marshalled the backline well with a great supply of ball from the
pack fed by Teresa Dunne. Derry captain Stacey Jackson continued with her
trade mark storming runs and Kerri McLaughlin along with Mirnada Verner making some vital tackles.
Waterpark went over near the posts for a converted score against the run of play following a breakout from their own 22. Despite he loss of Lizzie Ballentine through injury spurred the Derry pack on who went toe to toe with the more experienced Waterpark eight, holding out on the Derry and turning over the Waterpark ball. However it was to be Waterpark's day, the reward for their 800 km round trip a place in the next round.
Overall a performance from which City of Derry can be very proud. With a number of players out of position the squad pulled together and played for the jersey. Hopefully next up is the long awaited fixture against Armagh.
