(vs Finn Valley, 20/10/18)
Finn Valley 5 - 61 CDRFC U18
The Under 18’s travelled to Ballybofey this week to take on a strong Finn Valley side. Weather conditions were perfect for rugby and Derry started strong running hard at Finn Valley from the start, but Finn Valley sucked up all the pressure.
Derry battered the Finn Valley line with strong carries from Adam Cullen, Cein McColgan and Dara Gill. Eventually, the Derry pressure began to stretch Finn Valley and Cein McColgan went over the line first after 15mins and Mark Grant added to the score with a conversion. Finn Valley came back strong again with great decision making from their out half Kody Laferty but they could not convert the pressure into points.
Derry have been getting stronger and stronger over the past few weeks and the team have really started to gel well together, nothin showed this better than the couple of excellent team tries scored by Conor Mullin and Robert Roarty.
Finn Valley came out of the blocks in the second half strong. Kody Laferty again making great decisions put his team into a really strong position and allowed a team to score against Derry for the first time this season. Derry found their 2nd gear with the introduction of the substitutes. Oisin Taylor worked hard to get around the field and managed to score two tries along with Robert Roarty, Eoin Coyle and Conor Mullin. The match was ended with a superb try from Mark Grant as he carved up the opposition, running strong and stepping numerous men to go over the line right under the posts!
Finn Valley 5 - 61
Derry would like to thank Finn Valley for their warm welcome and excellent game! Joint man of the match this week for Adam Cullen and Mark Grant! Derry make it four from four in the league and await a visit from rainey old boys next week!
